It's a wee bit racist. o_O Let's just say it fits the constipation theme. It takes the odd but still true idea that an active life can keep you regular vs. "you highly civilized people" who need a laxative.

Gone are the good old days (1946!) indeed. And the woman with the servant (approx. 1846 by the text) is mainly happy that her cosmetics come in cans. :-/
