Honestly, I got most of the things I wanted as a kid, including, in various years, a Fisher-Price record player, the Atari 2600, a Cabbage Patch Kid, Rollerblades...okay, I think I've given away my age now. The things I didn't get were a pony and a swimming pool.

Not an ad but I couldn't find one.

My ideal gifts were books, particularly these books. It took me until I was 38 before I got it off Amazon. I also wanted a box set of children's classic books (Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Call of the Wild etc...) that was printed very cheaply on pulp paper and were probably edited to hell and back but they were small and there were so MANY of them! My cousin was no reader but she had a set and wouldn't let me touch them. Biiiiiitch.

And finally...

I wanted to bake cakes and brownies and muffins but no! They switched out the red checks for pink in the 70s. I hear they're finally putting out a blue/green oven for little boys and girls who hate pink. About time!

Lego Technic Racing Car 8865

I was about 11/12 years and I wanted this set so badly, unfortuntely it was 60-70£ (if memory serves me right) and my parents refused to buy it for me for Christmas, I scrimped and saved my pocket money for ages and still couldn't afford it. My husband bought it for me for my 30th birthday and we spent many happy evenings building it together, I still have it.

Lego Death Star 10188

I have wanted this set forever, it has figures! It has a death ray! It has Darth Vader! It has the compacter hall, it has Han Solo and Leia and a the Wookey! It is absolutely gigantic and I have nowhere to put it and its £274! I waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant it! Sadly no-one has got this for me for Xmas as yet, I live in hope.

Capsela - like Lego on steroids. (I wanted a Lego set too, but Mom said she didn't want to step on all the little pieces she was sure I would leave around on the floor.) Sorry for the crappy quality of the commercial here. Who knows, maybe if I had been given this toy I would have gone into engineering instead of English!
