Hi there! I'm a newbie to the comm. I collect comic books and I have a large collection of issues from the 70s and 80s. So expect a lot of that kind of stuff in my posts.

I thought I was immune to the drug-fueled weirdness that usually permeates the ads in 70s comic books. But this one legitimately surprised me:



Believe it or not, the surprise didn't primarily come from the bizarre and mildly racist assertion that the Japanese are X-Men mutants (though that is pretty weird). But mainly because this is the book I found it in:

Norton Company / Behr-Manning, 1951-52

"What doesn't belong in this picture?" they all ask, and then present a Salvador-Dali-would-be-proud surreal landscape of wildly disparate elements.  The answer in every case is bleak; what does not belong is whatever does not come from this company, or whatever has not been touched by man-made products.  Inevitably, it's the one completely natural thing in the picture that is "the stranger".
