i was sitting here looking up local ads as i have to go out and about today and figured i could take a picture of something local....i have discovered in my 30 minute search that many akron businesses of long ago had addresses that no longer exist....even if the street still exists the #s in no way shape or form correlate! i was searching smaller businesses, not goodyear---they are here, though building new headquarters i think a mile down the road from where they were and they stopped using all the buildings in their original campus a generation ago.....bridgestone still is here and i think firestone still has an office here.....i only care about the BLIMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (which is docked in suffield as the original blimp dock is now owned by lockhead martin doing government work where they tried to build some experimental 'spy' dirigible for over $100 million that they tried to set off at like 5am some morning---cars were lining the highway to watch---and it crashed in pennsylvania.....).....

ANYWAY.....i found this.....i dunno how old this ad is, but guess what? the place IS STILL A ROLLER RINK! down in an area by a 'gentleman's club' but it's still a roller rink....so hey, you kids skate and daddy will go down the street here.....

Aww, so cute!

ebony jr dolls feb 1976

Ebony Jr. does not appear to be in print anymore, but Johnson Publishing is still at this address. As for Sunny and Honey, they continue to live on with an updated look digitally. Sorry to say, but it's a pretty sucky website. Not much for a kid to do there! :(

So at the Vancouver Public Library's website, they've digitized lots and lots of Vancouver directories! I took two random ads from the 1929 directory, nothing fancy, and see what's going on nowadays at that business..

Barber-Ellis of Canada, Ltd. was incorporated in 1931. The company merged with Gage Envelopes Ltd. to form Barbecon Inc. in 1978. Barbecon Inc. was acquired by Abitibi-Price Inc. in 1985. Abitibi-Price Inc. amalgamated with Stone-Consolidated Corporation to form Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. in 1997.

Nowadays, at that location is.. A JJ Bean coffee store!

I don't know what made this device any different from a typical tape recorder. I checked Smith-Corona's current location, and they're now located in Cleveland, Ohio. Now 410 Park Avenue is the home of the Manhattan Business Centre. There is also a Maserati corporate showroom, and Ferrari has an office there, so it must be a good place for high-end car dealers. According to the website 410park.com you can rent executive suites for $2,500 a month or virtual office space for $90 a month. The head offices of the NFL used to be there, but they moved to 280 Park Avenue.
