I'm not sure what a half-naked, buff sword-swallowing woman has to do with refrigerators, but this ad is from the Saturday Evening Post in 1921. Awesome!

Extra fiber.

I had to stitch this image together:  sorry if any of the seams show.  The interesting thing about this ad is the copy, which brought down the wrath of the Federal Trade Commission on ITT's multinational head:  or more specifically, what's not in the copy.  Fresh Horizons bread did indeed have "far more fiber than whole wheat bread", and "as much fiber as you get from 100% bran cereal".  What's not stated here is that the additional fiber is derived from cellulose:  processed wood pulp.  In essence, sawdust.  Hardly something the traditional Japanese diet has had for "centuries".  Yummy.
