misstiaSunday April 1st---APRIL'S FOOL DAY!!!!: yeah, ads that depict fools, jesters, mimes, etc...and yes, we can also subversively make digs at LJ too as they seem to be run by some fools....regular ads and commercials....just a day for fun!!!! and yes, even though it's retired and shouldn't be posted again, someone can post the jester wool ad...all regular rules apply.....
April's Contest Starting Monday April 2: theme is SPRING! ads that have spring as a theme.....yes, we could even say 'bed springs' as that has spring in the word right?? not spring in the season sense, but it's SPRING....let's have fun as we always do!!!! i'll post rules on Sunday.....
Sunday, April 8th---one day event!: easter/animal themed ads.....
WEEKEND EVENT!!!! April 20-22: remember we had 'porn stache weekend'? well we're gonna have a pajama party weekend!! someone suggested ads for pj's....let's make a weekend of it and have a weekend slumber party!!!!
May upcoming
May's Contest Theme is: Rain/Inclement Weather!: this was suggested and received the next amount of votes....so this will be May's theme!! Day to start to be announced closer to the start date.....
May Weekend Event--not sure when yet: Men's clothing from the 1970s! Someone suggested men in slacks circa the 70s....but let's expand that a bit and make it a fun weekend! :)
and someone suggested we do ads with smiles---like fake smiles, gigantic smiles, creepy smiles, etc and we couldn't think of the right kind of wording....crocodile smiles was suggested as the theme, does that sound good?? does that translate well and convey what we want??? if not, please post a comment and let's brainstorm some more on it!!
any other ideas for a contest theme, fun day/weekend, etc post a comment!!!
when we get to 500 members over on vintage ads on dream width we will start having contests there too!! yes, we are STILL manning life boats to there....LJ is still taking on water and is a sinking ship.....we shall remain until the end, but we need to realistic.....

Turns out one of them has been sitting there all packed up since 1981, full of china packed with the Calgary Herald. Sorry for the bad quality, it was a speedy scan so I could get rid of it (30 years of chain smoking).

So this is one of those ads that deserves to be translated. The ad is from Vida Moderna Magazine (Modern Life Magazine), dated October 16th, 1924.
It's a clever ad that even though I find the drawing ugly, I like it =)
What is Cafiaspirina?: a drug that quickly alleviate pains, fatigue and tiredness.
I'm sorry if my translation isn't a 100% perfect!! English is not my first language, so forgive me for the mistakes!
"THE MAN IS A PLAYTHING who passes from hand to hand in existence's irregular path. There are gentle hands, and merciless hands. Today, the hand of happiness caresses him, makes him smile, and let him go; the hand of pain holds him soon afterwards, makes him cry, and then abandons him. The hand of triumph makes him ascend, the hand of failure makes him fall. But men, in spite of being insignificant when compared with destiny, learned how to defend themselves against certain assaults, for which they used to feel helpless.
