Shifty's Disco - Calgary Herald, 1981

I was helping my great aunt in-law sort through some boxes because she's moving soon. Turns out one of them has been sitting there all packed up since 1981, full of china packed with the Calgary Herald. Sorry for the bad quality, it was a speedy scan so I could get rid of it (30 years of chain smoking).

I'm from Calgary, we used to go to Smitty's all the time.... Well, not ALL the time. Quite often. Loved the Southwestness of all of these, if you have more, I wouldn't mind seeing them. These bring back memories, although I have never been to any of them besides Smitty's.

My mom worked at the Smitty's in Golden in the late 70s. I showed her this ad, and she said when they had their all you can eat pancake day, this one guy ate 51 pancakes somehow.

I remember going to the Brentwood Mall Smitty's back in my high school days for pancake contest day. I don't think I got through more than 12, but one of the guys on the football team managed 20+.

It didn't help that they only served 4 at a time, and you'd fill up quite a bit while waiting.

Very neat (another Calgarian here). I don't know why this makes me nostalgic, as I wasn't even alive then, but it does :D
