as a kid, I remember the turbo grafix 16 as that expensive system behind the glass case at the local toys r us with games that looked more advance than Sega or Nintendo, but never knew anyone who actualy owned the system (except for maybe that kid in the class with the rich parents that would never be friends with you)

Looking back now, Ive come to realize that their game library sucked, and hasnt stood the test of time at all.

I never see one of these units for sale when we go to the comic expo or such!

TG16 was great actually. It was an 8bit system with a 16bit GPU so it was more powerful than NES and Sega Master System and held its own against the 16bit systems from Sega and Nintendo (at least in Japan where it was called PC Engine). The game library didn't have all the big names that Sega and Nintendo had, but it did have Bonk, Alien Crush, Blazing Lazers (actually a Star Soldier sequel) and also a good Castlevania game. The US marketing people screwed the pooch too, they were ex-Atari people iirc. This ad is a pretty good example.

I wanted one but not too badly and we were a Sega and Nintendo house so we had it pretty good already.

They go for quite a bit used and I'd rather have a Master System or NeoGeo (I have almost everything else). A lot of the games are available for wii virtual console and psn.

I just realized Johnny Turbo looks like Kevin Smith as drawn by Rob Liefeld. Only better because this artist seems to have a slightly better grasp of anatomy.

I thought all those guys had formal art training and an understanding of these things. Liefeld on the other hand...
