From the EAL publication “Pastimes” from 1972. The centerfold introducing the L-1011 to the EAL fleet. Image from David Capodilupo.

I've taken many long haul trips on these. I was sad to see Delta take the last of them out of service as each aircraft came up for heavy maintenance in the mid '90s.

I loved L-!011's! So sleek and stylish. And a raised tail engine is just *special*. So hard to find nowadays, except on cargo DC-10s, and some old 727/DC9 models.

My mom's friend, who took me on my first few flights in the the 80s / early 90s, was all about the L-1011. I can't remember if I've ever been on one... in that timeframe, I only did 2-3 hour flights on Delta and one long-distance flight on Alitalia.
