Who else is going to miss this voice?

Of course, many of us knew Casey Kasem as the voice of Shaggy on Scooby Doo. I tried to find a vintage ad with his voice, but, I couldn't find one. Zoinks!

Casey Kasem kept reaching for the stars and he finally got there. Rest in peace.

I remember Casey Kasem best as the announcer of American Top 40, which I listened to every week for at least 10 years when I was a kid.

Me, too. I think it came on Saturday morning. I liked that he didn't just introduce the songs, but that he included those little bits of trivia about the artists or the songs like the namesake for Lynyrd Skynyrd. Before the Internet, it was harder to find this stuff out.

He didn't have a "face for radio" either. I thought he was very handsome and he aged well, though I am sure illness took its toll at the end. Some interesting info here: http://www.wcnc.com/entertainment/263214071.html

yep i listened to his show too.....and i just read---and i never realized listening to this as a kid---that he never said anything negative about any act or made a deal about the song dropping, he said he wouldn't do that because it was a big deal for the act to be in the charts and they should be proud and he also wanted a family friendly show.....he definitely succeeded there.....

he truly worked his way up to success and i believe was one of the last people to have truly WORKED their way to the top.....he seemed incredibly grateful and humble for what he had....a class act.....

I loved how his show always had a positive tone. I have been reading that many people who knew him thought he was a nice person. It's such a shame that he suffered so much at the end and his family went through so much dealing with end-of-life issues. Never fun! I hope they can heal now.

AT40 was on every Sunday evening and because I had never seen Billboard magazine and had no idea how to get it, I actually wrote down all the songs as they were played. Yes, I listened to it every Sunday night—and to Dr. Demento, which I originally heard on 66 WNBC in New York. Of course, this was the first place I heard Weird Al Yankovic, but I listened to Dr. D for many years before I ever heard Weird Al.

I also still have my "Dr. D-shirt," with a full-color picture of the good doctor (real name: Barret Hansen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Demento).)

He definitely had a Bill O'Reilly moment there, but don't we all? In retrospect, you can't help but wonder if maybe the dementia was starting to kick in.
