I have this tagged, 'master calendar' and I'll link to it on the 'sticky' post on the actual LJ vintage ads page, so you can reference it whenever you wish and find it easily!

I have added to the contest theme 'hat': meat, vegetables, fruit and non-creepy kids, that's in additional to what is already in there!
Added to our weekend themes: are all the ones that were suggested, plus I added all 50 states, countries, and of course what was already there! And yes, more ideas are always welcome!!! ETA: ALWAYS feel free to suggest a one day event, or suggest to change a weekend weekend in case i've overlooked something!!! this calendar is not etched in stone and can be changed, edited, altered, etc!!

Monday December 23 to Wednesday December 25: What I wanted for Christmas as a kid, ads for things you wanted, never got, still want or might have gotten yourself as an adult!

One day event December Thursday 26th: Movie Trailer Day: Your favorite movies!!

Weekend Event 27-29 Weather!! Ads that feature WEATHER!

One day event Tuesday December 31: New Year Eve's Party!!!

January

Wednesday January 1st TWO one day events in one!
1. Hangover products!
2. WELCOME 1994 ads!! (we have a 20 year rule here so we will be adding 1994!)

Weekend event 3-5 Ads featuring the color GREEN

Monday January 6th Contest Starts: CARS

* Gay Equality Day note: I think this is important to have once a month with the ever increasing laws against gays in Russia (and LJ is owned by a Russian company and the site goes down when there are huge protests). Not to mention that world wide gays are persecuted and even killed for just being who they are. Even in the states, as with the recent hate crime murder of a gay man in NYC. This isn't political, this is a human right's issue. And I hope I continue to be the only one (well I know one other member who was targeted, though not directly) who is harassed about this. I am on troll patrol, there is zero tolerance for intolerance (though the Russians pointed out I wasn't allowing free speech, but hate speech is NOT free speech as far as I am concerned) and if any member is harassed or threatened, please let me know! I have a friend who also can translate Russian--much better than google translate! :) If you are a regular, you can contact me for my phone number even. I want everyone to feel 'safe' here!

Oh and one other note, I got a complaint that I only seem to defend gay people. That's not true. I once defended a Christian who was attacked for zero reason here because it was Easter time (this was years ago) and they had an icon with Jesus on a cross and someone attacked them for that. It was horrible and WRONG. I would defend anyone being attacked here regardless of faith, color, sex, etc. Most of the problems we have here though are, unfortunately, homophobic in nature. Which further buttresses my rationale for gay equality day!

So is "master calendar" going to be the events tag going forward? I have had trouble finding the event announcement posts in the past because of inconsistent tagging.

Ah, I see the link in the sticky post. That's good. If the events posts could all be tagged at least "upcoming events," that would be great, and if it doesn't end up in the sticky we'll know where to go to look for it. That way we don't have to remember to bookmark a particular post. I can see how you might want to tag a long-range post like this both "master calendar" and "upcoming events," because it's both.

Hi! I know your schedule is pretty much set (and it looks great, BTW), but I just thought of something: would you be interested in a one-day event acknowledging the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination? The date this year, November 22nd, falls on a Friday, as it did in 1963. Could we have something like early '60s ads? Just a thought!

we can ALWAYS add things, rearrange things, etc!! ALWAYS feel free to suggest something!!! That is a great one day event idea (though a tragic day in American history)....60's ads or JFK ads? what do you think?? i can add whatever you think would work better.....i think perhaps JFK ads, or things that JFK influenced or involved with----moon landing, peace corps, etc.....thoughts, ideas?

Awesome! I think that's a good idea, JFK-related ads. Space and Peace Corps are excellent. There could also be Cape Cod/New England ads; fashion ads as Jackie influenced that world quite a bit with her pillbox hats and other stylish clothes; political ads, etc. I do know his favorite foods were clam chowder and Boston cream pie. ;) And maybe someone could find a Vaughn Meader ad for the Kennedy family spoof record that was a hot seller until November 22nd.

I just looked and wow, that's the weekend I had for religious ads.....i mean, a big to do was made during the election of him being a catholic.....wow....but yes, friday nov. 22 will be a one day event (and the start of our religious ad weekend, i think in a way that ties in nicely?)....

fashion is a good tie in....boston ads too!!!

Religion was a HUGE deal in 1960. People openly said they wouldn't vote for a Catholic. He handled the issue well, though, and gave Catholics a boost in feeling more like they were valuable members of society. Memories were long about the days of Irish Need Not Apply signs in Boston!

I look forward to the event. JFK was our first 'Television President' and his press conferences were Must-See TV. ;)

I hope someone can find an ad for PT 109, a movie released in 1963 that starred Cliff Robertson as the young Lieutenant Jack Kennedy as he skippered a PT boat in the South Pacific during World War II.

yep HUGE deal back then....and he stressed it would not affect his ability to be president....NOW look at candidates, they have to basically profess that their religion WILL affect their ability to be president! JFK had it right and did it right!!

My mom had that book in her collection. I think I saved it from the book donation boxes. I hated to see her and Dad's books go but once the move is made, there will be no room for them. :(

I just saw an ad that used the word "tomboy." I was a bit of a tomboy before I became such a wuss and I like ads that show girls playing baseball, holding frogs, etc. Maybe we can have a tomboy day with ads featuring girls doing tomboyish things? Maybe on the same day also have "boys with a sensitive side" or something.

So you're thinking gay? You know, because you can't think straight? Ha ha! (Yeah, terrible joke!) But, yeah, I think anything along the lines of non-traditional gender roles, preferably in a positive light. I mostly just want a tomboy theme, but then I thought that would exclude boys.
