I've got some readers' offer ads here scanned from a 70s craft magazine called Golden Hands Monthly. They're all from 1972-4. If you want to see the rest of the pages I scanned, they're here.

Electric scissors sound quite alarming.

I have this dress dummy, it's ubiquitous in the UK on ebay. It's rubbish, the sliders for adjusting it are really flimsy. Mine is also only in cm, and dressmaking is still done in inches here.

Mmm, terylene bedsheets. The same stuff they make plastic bottles out of.

I tried googling "glas-craft" and only got an industrial glass company, so I don't know exactly what it was. I imagine it was something similar to this stuff. I like the lettering on the labels though. It was probably some kind of toxic gloop.

Yup, Glas-craft was similar to another product called "Dip-It" - basically a liquid plastic film that formed a membrane across a wire loop, and dried almost instantly. I used to love the stuff when I was a kid but I'm sure it was horribly toxic.

Friend of mine's Dad was a professor of maths. A particular interest of his was soap films and their geometry, A few years ago he was hunting down old stocks of this stuff, as a way of making his soap films permanent.

Oh, man. I'd forgotten about that stuff. Either my mother or my older sister had some back in the early 70s. I just remember a LOT of flowers made with it around the house.

I have that same dress form too - you're right, it's flimsy!

Anyone recognize that funky font used for the word "OFFER"? I have a late 70s HC called "Science Fiction Movies" that uses it in the chapter titles.
