mod post--update on what lj is doing.....

straight from the horses mouth other end a translated russian lj news post---by someone who doesn't work for LJ, so don't shoot the messenger---with their CHANGES for the friends page....INFINITE SCROLL!!! and when a new entry pops up on your friends page when you're on a box will pop up on the left telling you there's a new entry! direct your comments to this post here and leave a comment, it's the russian beta post that the translated post narrowed down to a few bullet points....not that they care about users or listen to them....but we can still tell them what we think!!!

and being passive aggressive....what kind of tag should we have? SUP SUX? LJ Killers? i mean they are systematically killing this site.....

while yes, fiscally the decision makes a lot of sense (vs supporting a lot of different different styles of pages)...this is one of the few places that many people CAN adjust their pages so that they dont have issues with sight, with migraines, with other disabilites that make the "popular" forums either barely usable or downright disabling to use.

(not to mention people who wish to inflict their sense of "style" on us (green on red background, no lie) or their sense of "delightful" music on us.)

this was a place that was usable. if this rollout comes to be (WHEN this rollout comes to be, along with the chortles of "stupid americans!" from the overloards) i'm going to be among the people who leave. along with my measly yearly dues, which dont add to much, i admit.

but it sure as hell leaves me with a much smaller social circle (email only at that point). and to someone who is borderline agorophobic? not so fun at all.

yeah, i mean, from a financial point that does make sense and really, we all have to realize LJ is NOT really making money---they might CLAIM they are, but we're beyond seeing past russian bravado.....and you are absolutely right fallconsmate about the customizing our pages....they should MARKET THAT....that HERE one can deviate from the same old same old layout you are forced to have on facebook, etc....here you can have what you want.....they could make that a paid feature.....but that white? infinite scrolling with pop ups for a new post? no, just no no no! i will never go to my LJ friend's page again, and that is the page that 99% of the time when i come to LJ, i am on!!! i will have to go to my friend's journals individually every day and what of people who have a lot of LJ friends??

you might have already told me this and i have forgotten, so i apologize, but have you tried DW? i know it doesn't have the user base as LJ, though i see an uptick in users after they force everyone to this friend's page style......

i um...may have actually told one of the co-founders of DW to kiss my lily-white ass at one point or another. ok i DID tell the uppity little snot that when she threw a hissyfit about "you MUST get a DW account and reply to me on my DW journal even though i'm going to still post both places because i'm not going to be arsed to answer or read if you reply on LJ and i'll just cuss you out if you do".

i posted something on my journal about "glad people are happy with your new journal of choice, but i'm not getting a new journal and be forced to learn a second system just to reply to your posts, i wish you good fortune in the pursuits of your life" and she threw the hittyfit. at which point, yeah. *massive eyeroll*

anyway, not going to DW, i dont think they'd ALLOW me there LOL

!!!!!! i think i know which one of whom you speak!!!! that's majorly FUCKED!!! now they use the same damn code that LJ uses---they use to WORK for LJ...i post both places---my posts originate from DW, and when i want to use a cut i use the lj-cut tag....but w.t.f?! i have people usually comment on my blog posts on LJ....why the hell wouldn't i respond to people who reply there?? i cannot even imagine telling someone to go to reply on my DW....

and no, i hadn't heard this before, so yeah, i'm not fully losing my mind! but that is messed up....girl needs an attitude adjustment.....

that happened when DW was brand spankin new. as in, within 2 weeks of it starting. you know, before the russian overlords?

she was still in college at that point, i believe...and YES she needs to be shown that grace and decorum will get you further than attitude and arrogance.

i believe they have changed their attitude but i can see that still sometimes come across in some things....i'm sure at the time she thought she was totally hot shit at a start up and la ti da.....

i think i got a DW account when they were a few months old....then i ignored it until LJ started their shit last year....i do like that DW will tell members what they are doing, they ask for feedback---and actually listen and act on it, etc....

that would be because one of the founders of DW actually was one of the people behind LJ. they really ARE behind making their user base happy, and i WILL give them that.

eh, if i really cannot stand the changes, i WILL be able to get on DW, i've had a name change and a different email address or 2 since then too. ;) and there are enough friends on DW that i could build up my f-list there, too.

i have a Dear One who is holding onto an invite for me. *G*

actually DW is invite free! they've been that way for almost a year now! they did say if they had a real huge surge in new accounts they might have to reinstitute invites, but when they got thousands of new members last year from LJ they said their servers handled it quite well....

yeah, they really do want to keep users happy....unlike oh this place....with the 'let them leave, we'll get more users' attitude....

hooray to know that if all else fails you'll come to DW!!
