mod post---what LJ has brewing.....

I tried to repost this to our community and couldn't....this was reposted to a friend's LJ and i think y'all should see what LJ has planned for us next....

upcoming forced friends feed....they have screen caps from their beta testing....apparently LJ is gonna make us all have the same friends 'feed' that we can't customize---all have to use the same layout....nice eh??

the poster says it's like tumblr sort of, but i dunno anything about that site....i do know the WHITE IT HURTS MY EYES and it hurts other eyes and i guess LJ is now trying to morph into a FB/tumblr hybrid?? the poster isn't the one to direct comments to, that would be towards lj_releases not that LJ actually cares about what anyone says anyway....

ETA: m03m posted this in the comments but this should be noticed by everyone---article from october 16 about how LJ has shut down their US office...the site also has an article from last month about decline of LJ through the years.....

and we are STILL manning life boats to our dream width vintage ads community....dream width is STILL invite free and they have announced that they will soon have their own photo hosting.....

Why can't LJ be forced to fix things that ARE actually fucked?

that makes sense? that's all i can think....i mean they have YET TO GRASP through all their forced changes that people here the ability to personalize everything and make it their own---they should be proud of that and market THAT, instead of trying to be something they are not.....

It does look like an FB/tumblr hybrid. Yuck. I won't be renewing my paid account if they do this. I'm not on either of those two sites for a reason!

i've never been to tumblr.....i do have a facebook, but fb is totally different from lj and i use it differently....i don't want a BLOG SITE to be like FB.....fb isn't a blog site and the rate they are going, lj is not gonna be a blog site much longer....

do you think the DW people will sell? they seem pretty 'the anti-LJ'.....i mean i know it was founded by former LJ workers, but they are very committed to being what LJ has become....i have a paid account on DW now and i'm happy there, especially since they announced they're soon going to have their own image hosting!!! YEAH!! they're growing slowly, but i think with this change, they'll get even more LJ migrants.....

I think they're changing it into something that many of us will not want to use. Let's not forget that they are now a whole lot bigger in Russia than in the rest of the world.
If they can be the Tumblbook of Russia, they'll probably cash in very nicely. Why would they care about the small minority of 'old' users that will leave because of the changes?

i know a lot of russians don't like the changes either....they do treat non-russians as secondary and dispensable though.....

It's not even the changes to the website that bother me so much, (though to be fair, lets face it-their tweaks to this site have been pretty awful the last few years) it's the attitude of the staff towards people with legitimate concerns. Basically, you can leave feedback all you want, but their answer always seems to be a robust, "sucks to be you!"

that's what it seems like to me, that they want people to leave...there was an article with an interview with iPgrick the one who is basically in charge of the changes from last year when they forced the comments changes thru that they were redoing the whole site and if people left they didn't care because NEW people would flock to the new redesigned site----little do they know!!! LJ fills---or should i say filled???---an unique niche on the internet and they are taking that away instead of capitalizing on what they HAD.....

yeah, that white....and it seems so much brighter too....it's horrible....and when people complained about the white for the comments they told people to adjust THEIR COMPUTER SETTINGS!!!!

if you want something similar to LJ, DW is still invite free.....they don't have image hosting yet, but they are going to soon....they use the same html code as LJ---it was founded by LJ workers....they're very open with what they plan and they ask for feedback and they LISTEN, they really listen!!! you can transfer your LJ to DW too.....i'm happy on DW....i cross post to LJ from DW.....

I dont use this site for anything other than Vintage Ads. Recently I been friend-ed by people whom I do not know. There not people from here, and they look like spam. Is there a way I can delete them. I don't like the idea of just random span accounts linking to me.

Edit friends in your profile by unchecking the box by their name. You can also ban them from your journal if they keep trying to add you.

Go to profile, scroll down to friends, click on edit and uncheck box by their name.

i have had that happen too! i think i have some now that are like that---i just haven't done anything about it cuz i guess i don't really care about LJ anymore aside for our community and my friends list.....

i think also, aside from marmaladeginger's good advice, you can hover over their journal name and report them as spam.....
