Because I lived in the sticks (and still do!) and it was the only channel we got back then, in the days when satellite dishes were too expensive and cable just wasn't available here. This was when it was still a kickass Toronto station and not part of a giant media conglomerate like it is today.
I remember this ident well -- it's the first one I remember (1984). I also remember my grandmother watching Huntley Street.

I also remember this one, from 1986. Little five-year-old me would run to the TV to catch the "stars" as this ident was coming on and then I'd "throw" them to my mother who was sitting on the couch.
