Remember the Frito Bandito? I wish I didn't but it is what it is.

Frito-Bandito
What in the hell are "keeds"? No, I know. Don't tell me.

fritos bandito

Not sure the exact year of these, but the source I found these at said 1950s. they appear to be from the 1970s.

This is from 2009:

baked fritos

It's kind of hard to read, but here's what they are saying:
Woman on left: These are the best invention since the push-up bra.
Woman on right: I wouldn't go that far.

A boobies joke? Only in a Woman's World? So Baked Lay's are only for women? How is this more inclusive? Link to article here

More like the 1970's, judging from the art, and I think I remember that Ad campaign. Keeds are kids, pronounced with a totally cheesy, stereotypical Mexican "si si seeeenyore" accent.

The horrid sexist BS of the second ad is no better, is it?

Another not believing these date from the 50s. Didn't we have to wait till the late 80s-early 90s for push up bras? (At least from someone other than Frederick's of Hollywood!) If memory serves, I seem to recall the Bandito's earlier incarnations with stubble that was toned down before they decided there was just no way to take the derogatory out of the character and sent him to live on a farm upstate with the dog you dimly remember from early childhood.

I remember the Frito Bandito ads airing on TV into the mid-70's.

I have a Frito Bandito pencil eraser so it's definitely late 60s to early 70s for that specific campaign/promotion.

I used to have one of those. I don't remember whether it came in a bag of Fritos or whether I got it as part of my membership to the Frito Bandito club in the early 70s.

I don't remember what the 'benefit' of being in the club was, but I do remember having the eraser as well as some vague recollection of some 'humorous' stuff written in that accent.

Yeah, there was some kind of club which my sister and I probably joined by sending off to an address on the back of a Fritos bag. I know we both had Frito Bandito erasers and some other stuff, but I really don't remember it well. It's been over 40 years, after all.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that eraser in the back of some drawer somewhere. It's the kind of weird thing I'd be unlikely to throw out.

Speedy Gonzalez's awful 'Mexican' accent is a good comparison for how I remember the Frito Bandito sounding. Shoot, he may even have been voiced by Mel Blanc. He looks better in the ad above than I remembered him. I guess it's due to so much time passing, but I always think of him looking more scruffy, like a bad guy from a spaghetti western.

A quick search brought up this:

Now I really do wonder if Mel Blanc did his voice.

i'm also remembering the early to mid 70's for the frito bandito. :)

f'ed up family history...TheEngineer's dad was born in mexico. *his* grandfather was killed by pancho villa's troups (this is the family belief, the man was an anglo engineer/blasting expert/mining supervisor who disappeared between home and work) and the family lost nearly all their property/wealth. i met (and was welcomed by) his family when the Matriarch passed away...

half the family looks anglo with irish coloring, half of them look lantino. just, wild. :) (thats us on the wedding day in the icon pic)

yeah, there are people of EVERY color being born on EVERY continent (well, save antartica, unless you count penguins as people *G*) so its a silly assumption to make.

thank you! we're going on 4 years now :)

ok, but there isnt a whole lot of color variation on penguins...grey babies, black and white adults, with yellow feathers sometimes, too, as i remember.

and adorable in any case!

That last one reminds me of the quote from Family Guy where Peter's like, "Men aren't fat. Only fat women are fat."
