What are they comparing electric stoves to? Wood stoves? Kerosene? I have used gas stoves and electric stoves and gas stoves certainly don't cause the problems they suggest in the ad. Not the ones I have used anyway.

Well, in that case, I would definitely prefer electric, but a gas range kicks electric's butt anytime. I grew up cooking on a gas stove and it took me years to adjust to an electric range. I wish I had one, but it would take major $$$ to buy a new stove and have a gas line installed in my kitchen.

This ad is from the beginning of rural electrification. Gas wasn't an option, much as we all prefer to cook on gas stoves.

That's the one weird thing about Montreal. Electricity is so cheap that even the foodies have electric stoves.

There is something weird about the address for The American School: 58th and Drexel. It's not just that the address is a building on the University of Chicago campus, which is still labeled "American School" in Google Maps. Why doesn't it have a building number?

As someone who works at a university, campus addresses (especially for public universities) are weird, and a lot of large campus actually have a 'fake' street address for official purposes, since the actual campus usually encompasses multiple city blocks, so that actually sounds about right to me.
