THEY ADMIT IT!

Jell-o Salad Flavors, 1965

"real salad flavors"

On the plus side, "You'll never again make a gelatin salad that's a dessert at heart."

Yes!

It is frightening, repellent, but also graphically quite pleasing!

What nuclear power plant where they located near, to get those shrimp and eggs so big?

*flinch* I'm imagining all of it going in; the fish tail waggling out of the top, the drumstick poking out of the side...

Yes.

Dear god I am strangely curious what "italian salad" jello tastes like.

Fish in Jell-O? I don't care that it's vegetable Jell-O. There is no way I would put fish in anything gelatin.

I wonder how long this was on the market. And I wonder if any heads rolled for this stupid idea.

Two words: Gefilte Fish. Fish bones have a remarkable amount of collagen in time, so a sufficiently reduced fish stock will become gelatin/aspic when cooled.

Yuck, it still sounds gross.

Fish is one of the few things they sometimes put in gelatin in Denmark - yes, it's disgusting

Considering that otherwise they were telling you to put this stuff in fruit-flavored gelatin...

I have a few old vegetarian cookbooks with recipes for making stuff like this with agar, which makes a substance similar to gelatin. Newer cookbooks don't mention anything like it, though. I think aspics etc. just lost popularity, and now they look gross to us.

The food looks good...BUT NOT IN JELLO!

The only food I think can work with Jello are certain fruits. And whipped cream. :)

I vote yes, too.

Yes for this ad. I wonder if there was any real difference between the jello flavors since it recommends any flavor for the ham jello salad.

Yes to the ad

But no to the idea. This is what happens in all those "it came from the suitably horrifying place" monster b-movies; someone sticks something in gelatin and all hell breaks loose.

Yes.

But what the HELL is that thing above the shrimp and the egg?

I think it's a whole ham. Wrapped partially in burlap.

In other words, thigh-o-pig. D:

I look at this ad and I just shake my head violently. "NO, NO" :(

I'd like to vote Yes though. :)
