second....here is the the LJ staff posting that article that i posted the other day....now no, there's nothing new there, it's the same article...i have read through all 218 (thus far) comments and several people have raised a very good point about why the lj staff would post such an article---especially since it's basically a 'fuck you' to loyal customers, whom LJ figures are replaceable.....the theory some have raised is that the lj staff posted that to warn us to be prepared to abandon ship basically....i think that is a good theory....i believe the lj staff posts are done by the US staff and i know they have been pretty much left in the dark by the russian owners---some have admitted that in comments on other posts, such as on the release 88 post.....that article was also posted on LJ's twitter & FB and i know that the american staff man those posts.....i like to view this as an act of nobleness before the ship goes down....a coded message 'iceberg ahead'.....

now, we do not know when these changes will be foisted upon us....as your captain (since i'm going with the ship analogy i'll stay with it), i will stay with the ship til the last---no one will need to tell me to get back on board dammit! but if you have time, please read some of the comments there....please be aware of what is happening to LJ....

as i've posted before, this is our home until we are kicked out or LJ becomes untenable....i think the latter might happen before the former....the community IS set up on DW...i understand moving to another site is a difficult decision to make, especially when you've been somewhere for a long time and this is 'home'....but our 'home' is taking on water and whereas some people will swim in it, i think the majority will prefer to get in a life boat and go somewhere warm and safe where we are welcome....

DW is still invite code free....they have a community for lj refugees....they ARE working on getting picture hosting on DW (which i admit is a drawback)....there is a community for helping you adapt your layout to DW if you need help here and i used that group and got help there....

DW is also AD FREE no matter your account level!! and please read their guiding principles and think about LJ and how they use to be and it's just wow.....

i don't mean to sound like an ad for DW....i understand it's not for everyone and some people will just abandon LJ totally without going somewhere else....and i know that some people will stay with LJ....but i know that many many people are going to be looking for a new home.....DW is the most similar to LJ....i'm not a fan of 'blogger' and you can't really have a community there.....

so please consider looking for a life boat if you are angry and fed up about the upcoming LJ changes....get a DW account and fiddle around with it....LJ is still allowing you to import your blog to DW...who knows, LJ might not allow that in the future.....i really think that post by the LJ staff though, once i saw those comments expressing the idea, is a warning.....like i said, i'm your captain and i'm staying on board here (community wise, my personal blog is already over on DW, though i do the daily writer's block on my LJ now just to subversively take digs at LJ...haha) and shall be here until the end.....

all this LJ fuckery is TRULY 'grounds for separation'....yes yes i did find a different hall & oates song to work into this! :)

While I only have a couple of actively posting friends, Only a couple of communities here exist on DW too.

I don't want to have to leave LJ! I like LJ. Well, used to. Now, if only I had a hundred million dollars lying around somewhere with which to buy LJ...

once the changes take effect....also some people are just creating their favorite LJ communities over on DW.....

i don't wanna leave LJ either....but they seem to be doing everything to drive away loyal customers and really, how much abuse can we take?? obviously a lot.....

you know i think when LJ was sold the first time it was for 'only' like $35 million, which when you think about it, was peanuts compared to a lot of website sales.....

I have more than a few friends, though several of them are on DW too. But as for communities, I haven't found much. And I like to post fanfic and such...

I'll be here until they actively kick me off or ally themselves with the devil or something but the whole thing really does piss me off. :/

If the community you want is not on DW, there's a simple fix, you know. You could create it. Or contact the mod of the community on LJ and ask them what their plans are re DW and maybe they'll create it.

especially since LJ seems focused on ruining communities first!! and what do they MEAN about creating new communities?? is LJ themselves going to create communities? or are they going to take over communities?? someone raised that in either theljstaff post or on ljrefugees and it was a good question....i mean, the way they've been going, it wouldn't surprise me if they pulled 'all your communities belong to us'...

Aside from making new communities on DW (and it isn't true that there are few mirrored communities; there are lots!), they just made it possible for communities to be imported! There's a bit of a backlog because so many people have been using the tool but generally it works pretty well and can handle even big old communities with a lot of posts/comments.

i imported v. ads!! i need to import the comments...at the time, they asked that if you had over 100,000 comments you hold off.....i think that's okay to do now as i saw a comment in a news post someone imported a community with over 400,000 comments....

i've been here since 2004....it is pathetic and scary....i have found DW to be welcoming and refreshing though.....very helpful people and it's like 'retro LJ'---how they use to be!! it just totally sucks though how LJ is tossing their loyal customers off the boat though---and whether they sink or swim, they don't care....they're confident they can find new passengers....

Ive been awol from lj lately, and I see I missed alot.
Although my current journal is newer, I've been here for 10 years.
I have noticed the slow decline of lj, but dont really want to leave.
Mostly because of the communities, but it looks like I'm drifting over to dj.

i don't like change either!! one thing about DW, aside from layouts---though you can import you LJ layout with some coding--that one link can help---it's similar to LJ and that has helped ME in transitioning over there....i think more and more will be heading over there when these changes are forced upon us....

loosing customers who have been with them for years is just horrible!!!

I agree; a lot of people are starting to explore DW now that LJ clearly doesn't give a fuck about us. It's a good thing; I've had to leave a lot of online communities over the years, and I happened upon LJ when my favorite website broke up. Now it's time to move on; fortunately there is DW.

You're not alone; I'm upset about it too. I've been on LJ since 2002 (I joined at 18 under a different name), and it's kind of sad the direction the site's going.

I don't mind the recent changes; it's the fact that they're not going to care about older users that has me miffed.

I've been on LJ since 2001-I've signed up for Dreamwidth, but haven't taken the time to do anything with it yet. Glad to know Vintage Ads will continue. Not so glad I had to get another username as it's currently being used for a friggin' Twilight roleplay community on DW.

It gives me a warm feeling that the "Hey, guess what Lysol was used for?" posts will keep on comin'. Thanks for keeping us posted.
