In the 1950s, advertising was dominated by large hands.  Disembodied, but still - powerful hands.  The layout is typical of many industrial ads of the time - 2/3 (lavish, detailed) artwork, 1/3 dense, progress-laden text.

Oh hey! Old-fashioned acetylene bicycle lamp! That's what you used until, I think, the 1950's. They were supposedly pretty bright, but a total pain in the ass to use and heavy.
