Eh, 10% alcohol isn't that much if you're only having 10ml of the stuff - it's only 1ml of neat alcohol, compared with say 25ml in a pint of beer.

It's about as much as is in Nyquil (I think?) and Nyquil (though coupled with a decongestant and expectorant) makes me, at least, feel pretty woozy pretty fast.

On googling 'aspironal', it led me to this (http://archive.nlm.nih.gov/fdanj/items-by-author?author=Aspironal+Laboratories%2C+Atlanta%2C+Ga) NIH site. I guess they had to revise their claims a few times?

Yeah, Nyquil is sedating because of dextromethorphan (opioid, a bit like morphine) and doxylamine (a strongly sedating antihistamine). Unless you get sleepy off 25ml of beer (two tablespoons) or half a teaspoon of vodka it isn't the alcohol.

cascara sagrada (apparently a laxative) = will clean you out real fast!

belladonna = narcotic

10% alcohol is essentially a preservative. That said, the only thing better than whiskey for a cold is a hot toddy.
