It was a simpler time for cigarette advertising.

"There's something about them you'll like."

How wonderfully vague!

LOL...77 O'Farrell is where Barney's NY is, now. So much for the Great Western tailor-made suits beating the Ready-Made factories from the East.

EXTRA PANTS FREE!!! Okay, okay, breath.

"If anyone in the Great West is trying to help you reduce the H. C. L. is it surely us." H. C. L.? High cost of living? So much for acronyms being an evil creation of the texting generation! That phrase would make an awesome marketing Tweet! "You know it!" LOL!

The first ad must be particularly old. There isn't even a phone number for the business.

But hey, they said I could take the elevator!

That second one implies that you'll dislike everything else about them- but hey, at least you'll get 20!

Yes, I am struck by how weak this ad really is. Certainly didn't require any grey matter on the marketer's part. They could use the time-tested yet meaningless "smooth", "Rare tobaccos", , 'vintage", "ultra mild", or "easy on the throat". But no, only "something". Or maybe just a limited creative budget?

That man with the monocle and the suits--he looks as if you could stick pins directly into him and he wouldn't feel any pain.

(I mean, aside from him being an ad and not being able to feel pain anyhow.)
