Ngl, when I saw "Alternate Version" in the video title I thought you had posted this one:

I'm not sure if I was relieved or disappointed when I realized you hadn't. xD

That one and this one are my favourite recuts -- so well done! The Shining one in particular used music so terrifically.

I used to ride my bike to the real hotel the book was based on (The Stanley) and practice on a grand piano that John Philip Sousa had written his name on (on the soundboard). When they remade it for TV, they used the Stanley, having figured out ways to make it seem isolated and not right next to a mountain town that was small and cozy in the winter and Coney Island in the summer.

It's one of my ambitions to vacation there. Oh, if only...

I used to live in Fort Collins (and briefly in Estes Park), and once a year they'd drive the Stanley Steamers up Big Thompson Canyon on Hwy 34 to the hotel (founded by the brother of the automaker). My sister and brother-in-law stayed at the hotel one night as a special event, and had a rotten time. The room was uncomfortable and too hot and so on. It was a long time ago, though, and the place may have been renovated since then.

I've been told that Sousa's autograph (dated 1936) isn't there now. I hope this report is wrong, but fear the worst. What kind of idiot would remove a thing like that?

An uncultured idiot! And I believe the hotel HAS been renovated recently. At least I got that impression when I was watching documentaries about it over Halloween.

Thanks for the update!

By the way — sorry if you get asked this all the time — but are you really Aunt Singe, or is this Lurch, talking in a high-pitched voice? I'm cool either way.

:D

I was just a kid when that elevator trailer for "The Shining" was playing, and I can't think of anything that EVER scared me more. Nightmares and horrors for years and years and years!

That's strange, the blood usually gets off on the second floor.
