I don't remember how we got this game, I only know we did. I don't remember it being bad enough to warrant the WORST GAME EVAR title (there are certainly contenders - I've been watching a playthrough of Superman64) but I will admit that it thoroughly sucked to fall into a pit and try to get out. So, maybe not the worst, but definitely one of the most frustrating.

This commercial skipped over the best part of the whole game, though: the puhpuhpet noise ET makes when he walks. How that was ever supposed to sound realistic, I'll never know.

I loved that sound!

Weren't you supposed to stretch out his neck and fly somehow to get out of the pit? It was impossible, I remember that distinctly.

AtarI ET, known as the worst commercial flop in the history of the video game industry.

What's funny is that Atari almost certainly spent more on that one commercial than they did to actually develop the game.

Oh no, they spent the money - about $125 million. The real problem was the six-week window they had to make the game.

The only thing about this game (which sort of creeped me out as a kid even though I liked ET) was making the ET character speed his little ass across screen after screen after screen. Had no real purpose, but it was fun to watch his little tiny legs whipping along.

I Loved this game! I was in my teens when it was out. Wish they had a playthrough I could watch. It would bring back such good memories. Does anyone know if there is one?
