It looks knitted! I would never want to wear that in the water.

It probably is knitted. Before the development of synthetics, wool was the only material elastic enough to make swimwear out of.

I'm just getting this awful visual of it getting wet, and promptly doing one (or both) of the following:

-- clinging to ALL the wrong spots in ALL the wrong ways;
-- stretching out in all sorts of unflattering ways.
