Mom looks really stressed out.

Also, she needs to button her shirt up a bit more.

Yeah, I have to wonder what else she put in the glass. My money's on Valium for herself, and lots and LOTS of Valium for Little Miss Freckle-Butt.

Victorian nannies used to spike their charges' food with laudanum to get some quiet time.

Hell, between that and the narcotic-packed teething remedies, I'm surprised the entire 1800s didn't consist of little kids jonesing for a fix.

There's probably vodka in that glass too.

I'm so distracted by trying to figure out what's in the bowl that I haven't got anything snarky to say about tomato juice.

Me too! Is it cream of wheat? cold cereal? old corn cobs?

At first I thought maybe the bowl was empty. But then, what is the dusting of brown stuff sitting on?

The queasy-stomach in me wonders if it's rice pudding. >_< It was common to dust cinnamon on top of that. I thank all the gods there are that my father hates rice pudding, and thus never inflicted it upon our family.

I agree. It almost appears to be some torched meringue. It is the wrong consistency (and the brown...?) for cream of wheat, oatmeal, or rice pudding that have not been pureed.

Hmm... I dunno. It could be the off-white of CofW or oatmeal, with milk or cream on top. *is hungry now*

It looks like porridge with brown sugar and a ton of milk to me. ASK ME how I know so well what said breakfast looks like. But it would taste vile with tomato juice!

I think it might be full size shredded wheat, with badly done milk.

Oooh! Fresh blood of innocents! With fresh-blood-of-innocents vitamins too!

Yay for Iron and the other stuff. It's perfect for vampire children...at least the non-sparkling kind, those are just staked at birth (or should be!).

what is with so many of the kids in these ads being just plain vile?

Reminds me of one of those old "Mommy, Mommy" jokes.

"Mommy, Mommy! Where's Daddy?"

"Shut up and drink your tomato juice before it clots."

Thank you for forcing me to google a full list of those (http://joy.debian.net/other/mommy.html). Ah, childhood memories.

oh my GOD! my mother would always tell me these! "Mommy mommy, but I'm tired of walking in circles!" "Shut up or I'll nail your other foot to the floor."

Unfortunately the first thing I thought of when I saw this was "Daywalker." But she has too many freckles?

... I'm gonna miss my job when I leave this weekend. xD

They really liked gingers back when, didn't they. Seems like every kid in these ads is redhaired and spotted.

Yes, because if there was one beverage I loved in my childhood, it was tomato juice. Bleargh.
