The Lackawana Railroad in the late 1800's - early 1900's used the character of Phoebe Snow (not the folk singer!) to advertise the 'clean smoke' of anthracite coal.

By sheer coincidence, I was watching "Super Password" on GSN while viewing this ad. Richard Moll used the word "anthracite" as a clue for the password "coal."
