Co-Mods Post
Nov. 30th, 2008 06:27 pmWe've had a lot of new members lately, so it might be a good time to make an entry listing the community rules--which are listed on the community info page.
Vintage_Ads Community Rules
1. All posts must include a vintage ad.
No text only posts. No posts looking for old ads. No posts looking for other communities, etc.
2. No commercial posts of any kind.
Whether it’s you trying to sell something or linking to a site that is selling something. Putting in a link to a site that has neat ads is fine, but not if they’re selling them.
3. All ads must be original, complete & vintage.
No ads that are just pictures unless that is the complete ad. No modern ads that are made to look like vintage ads. This is an ad community, not a picture community.
4. LJ-cuts are at the poster’s discretion, but NSFW ads should always be under a cut with a suitable warning.
Also, if you’re posting a really big ad, (over 800px wide) having it under a cut would be appreciated by some.
5. Multiple ads, (5 or more) should be under a cut & limited to 20 per post.
6. No hotlinking
Use your own picture hosting site to upload the ads.

We have had an issue with hotlinking lately. If you find an ad to post, please save it to your computer and then insert it via LJ, or use a hosting site such as flickr, photobucket, etc. If you need help learning how to post an ad to your LJ please leave a comment and we'll try to help you.
Thank you to everyone for the great ads that have been posted lately.

And to not violate a rule, here is a Lucky Strikes Marching Cigarette ad from 1948.

Date: 2008-12-01 01:56 am (UTC)I'm fairly sure that when we talked about adding tags, the mod decided against it since she didn't have time to implement it. I didn't know whether her situation has changed, but since we're talking about the community itself, this seemed like a good time to bring it up.
It's not a big issue; I enjoy the community even tagless. Just throwin' it out there.

if you can't add tags now, i have no objection to letting users create tags, but would have to confer with my co-mod and the site owner....
tags by decade might be the easiest, though if someone wanted to put the product name too, that would be nice....
