I remember a B.C. comic where the Fat Broad (so named) sees a mouse in her cave. She grabs up her stone axe and… sprints out to a tree, which she hurriedly chops down. Working with blurring speed - while the puzzled mouse looks on - she hack off branches, strips away bark into line, assembles the result with frenzied haste -
and standing on the chair she has just manufactured, only then does she scream bloody murder, sending the mouse tumbling away…
(Personally, I'd like to know where this idea came from. Why terrified avoidance? Does it have something to do with bubonic plague, and the rats that spread it? Not so farfetched: The seven-headed “Mouse King” of Nutcracker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nutcracker_and_the_Mouse_King)) is based upon a nasty thing called arat king (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rat_king).)
D-Con is bad news. When I was in high school, rats got into my mother's house and she D-Conned them. The idea is that they crawl out of your house looking for water before dying, but did that happen? NO. At least one died in the walls of my room and I had to live with my father for a couple of weeks until the smell of rotting rat went away. Good times.
So if that is what those ladies are really afraid of, I'm with them.

Date: 2008-11-22 01:52 pm (UTC)I am utterly totally and completely terrified of mice.
Probably has to do with a former cat (God rest his soul) leaving 1/2 dazed ones that he caught IN MY BED while i was SLEEPING and they'd wake up....
