That's sixties sensitivity for ya.

I'd suspect this ad is actually from the 1950s, since it doesn't have a five-digit zip code.

In the late sixties, I remember going to a neighboring town to buy clothes at a girl's clothing store called Mar-Lou's Chubbette. Apparently it was the PC term of the time.

I vote early to mid 1960s from her hairstyle and clothes.

I'm impressed with how that word immediately conjures up Denny Crane in my thoughts!

I'm also not convinced that the girl in the picturer is particularly chubby. Certainly not too chubby to wear normal sizes.

What was the shop from "Hairspray"? Herman's Hefty Hideaway? I liked that better. I also like "curvy girls"...they're more fun to dance with.

I think it was the Hefty Hideaway - owned by Mr. Pinky {This would be from the 1988 version}

I hated Lane Bryant so much. So expensive.

same here. And I go to regular stores and their 14 and 16's are way too small.

I like the sizing in Torrid, I think it's kind of neat. I mean, the fact that the smallest is a 0, which means (I think) L or XL. So the numbers, I realised, are simply starting over where average stores cut off.

Does anyone else think it's weird that 12 is now a plus size? I'm sorry, is it a girl thing? Cos every gynophilic person I know personally prefers ladies that are at least a 14, preferably a 16 at the smallest. I prefer a lady that looks...well, like a lady. You know, with hips. And a tummy. And thighs that maybe touch?

I started gaining weight when I was 8 (1982) and I shopped in the chubby and husky sections of stores!

Ack. Poor Agustus. That movie scared the fertilizer out of me when I was a kid.

I don't know if the girl in the ad is chubby, but the bottom half of her body is huge compared to her top half.
