1942 Swan soap ad
Sept 1942 Better Homes and Gardens ad for Swan soap. There's so much to love in this ad, from the drunk goose to the racy top of the stocking on "Mom." Ooh la la!

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] polyfrog points out that it's probably not a goose, it's a swan. Yeah, I'm an idiot.

He's definitely drunk, but I'm guessing he's a swan...?

True but it LOOKS much more like a goose. I think the artist might have been a little ornithologically challenged. Or drunk.

The fact that the ad includes talking dishes and clothes as well as a family that happily does what a psychotic swan tells them to do does tend to imply the artist was definitely on something.

I think the "he" is a she...note the apron. I don't know many adverts that have men in frilly aprons.

That man looks like they chopped a woman's body in half, and stuck the bottom to him...

The goose is an enthusiastic nursemaid. I wouldn't let it anywhere near my plates.

Any ad that includes "swell" is ace in my books.

And a bar of soap that takes up half the tub!

I enjoy that they drew the stocking tops and seams on the diving woman.

At first glance I thought the dishes were doughnuts. Why would doughnuts need washing? What makes it even funnier is the fact that they are talking about Swan getting the grease right off them.

Poor kid...
"MOM. I SEE YOUR UNDIES. NOT COOL. D:"

Not to mention that bar of soap is incredibly huge!

People actually use the same kinds of soaps for laundry and dishes and their skin? Weird!

ETA: It looks like Swan has a radio program, if you see the "Tune In" note - yay, soap operas!

Also, it reminds me of Dove, but I don't think I'd use my Dove bar soap for cleaning my tea mugs :/
