It did kind of smell like road tar, but a clean, chemical version of it. Hard to explain, but I can still remember it very clearly. It was always at my Grandad's house but I campaigned hard to get it at home as well.
I *know* I'm going to be poking around the shops today to see if it still exists so that I can have a sniff again. :-)
that stuff reeks. i was only exposed to it because my boyfriend has the shampoo. i always hated it, and then was not surprised to see that coal tar is ranked (pun intended) #2 on a list of chemicals to avoid in cosmetics; so i pointed this out to him, and he said that he is just going to use up the rest of the bottle... good thing he's accomplishing this nasty task about 3,000 miles away from me. ;)
omg my dad used to use this hair formula for men stuff that was supposed to gradually turn your hairs from grey to dark - while eating away at your sanity! The solution contained LEAD.
You can still get it in some places, as it can have a medical application. You can also get coal tar shampoo, which is still used for sensitive scalps, although you can't use it every day.
Try a really old fashioned pharmacy- it might not be with the other soaps, it could be with the skin treatment washes etc.
That makes sense - I was diagnosed with psoriasis a while ago (turned out to be eczema not psoriasis though) and prescribed a variant on coal tar cream for my skin.
I'll be poking around the nether regions of town later.
I used to have a flatmate with psoriasis, and remember her using coal tar shampoo- I' ve used it myself as well because a lot of ingredients in modern shampoos and conditioners inflame my scalp.
I always thought it smelled a little like creosote...
Try The Vermont Country Store (http://www.vermontcountrystore.com) for Coal Tar soap. I'm quite sure they have it, along with a lot of other crazy, awesome, tacky things.
further more, whats up with the frilly shower cap? Is it suppose to be a compromise between him and the misses, he gets his damn manly soap while continuing to wear that clashing fashion disaster?
Hey, he spent good money on that hair cut at Supercuts, and he'll be DAMNED if he's walking out of the house and over to the Jones' martini party, looking like a COMPLETE DISASTER!
I want to come up smelling like a rose, thank you. Not all men want to smell of tar (Coal Tar? Honestly?? HOw is that attractive in any way??? Is this a gynophilic-man thing?)
