The French were really into that gag for meat ads! I've seen two different ones only with a pig instead of a cow. But I have to agree with him...he DOES look delicious.
A friend of mine was on a road trip and he noticed a direct correlation between the animals on restaurant signs and the food inside the building. The more human, artistically drawn, and thrilled the animal was, the better the meat served in the restaurant.
A crude silhouette drawing of a pig? Keep driving. A one-colour contour drawing of a smiling pig looking directly at you? Not bad.
An ecstatic full-colour pig basting itself coquettishly with its own juices in a boiling bathtub of broth while holding a cleaver and laughing like a six-year-old-girl? STEP ON THE BRAKES! This is going to be awesome.
This ad takes it even a step further. This an ad for some some amazing meat.
Gah, there's a whole website dedicated to ad images of animals who appear to be delighted with the prospect of being eaten. I can't remember if I was directed to it through this community or not, but this definitely belongs there.
Found it! And this is posted there: http://suicidefood.blogspot.com/2007/04/ac-butcher-leichhardt-sydney-australia.html
According to that page, it's not French but Australian -- but the French have some tasty meat going for them too: http://suicidefood.blogspot.com/2007/04/sausages-from-auvergne.html
