this reminds me of a conversation i just had yesterday with an (india) indian woman that considered herself a vegetarian, but ate fish all the time. the taxonomist in me stared at her in disbelief, but she said she's met european-americans that are the same way.
i've always thought it seems meaner to catch and eat fish. at least husbanded animals get a lazy life of standing around and eating a lot (well, many of them) before they take one for the carnivore-team. fish are just going about their normal lives doing whatever it is that fish do, swimming, eating, filling out complicated tax forms, etc., and then they're snatched up just as they were on their way home to give their fishy wives an anniversary present and get to suffocate to death.
