Available blends are Flesh, Rachel, and Light Rachel. Huh. Insert joke about my name.

As a person who is also named Rachel, this disturbs me.

I think the shade was named after a real person in the 19th century but I'm not sure of the details.

given the period of the ad, this is probably it -

"Laban had two daughters. The name of the older one was Leah and the name of the younger one was Rachel.
Leah's eyes were tender, while Rachel was beautiful of form and beautiful of appearance." (Genesis 29:16-17)

I remember reading something about a scandal of some description during the 19th century. I think it might have been some sort of scam, where a gullible older woman was tricked out of money by someone who ran an early form of cosmetics company/beuaty parlour in London. The woman who ran it was called Rachel Somethingorother, and named one of the shades of facepowder after herself, and the name stuck. The problem is that I cannot recall for the life of me what she was called or which of my books I read it in. Or where on earth that book is at the moment. So I'm not much help.

Bizarre! I don't see how it can actually change color so drastically.

Wet n Wild used to make green and blue lipsticks that were supposed to turn some magical color that would suit your skin tone. Anyway, they turned bright pink on skin, for everyone, even if you put them on the back of your hand. Apparently, you can still buy 'magic lipstick,' if you search for it. Or you can buy this (http://www.smashbox.com/s.nl/it.A/id.2089/.f?sc=8&category=-108), if paying 99 cents for cosmetics just doesn't work for you. Look like the same idea, but much posher.

are they ever right - nothing makes me feel more self-conscious than kissing paint. whenever i'm at home, making out with my wall-board, i'm thinking, "what if my friends walked in right now? what would i say? is this really what my life has come to? swappin' spit for latex?"
