some of the peoples who shop there and work there are really sensitive...
years ago i went into a LB to buy a big shirt---i like baggy clothes--and the salesclerk told me to GTFO because i was thin! i was just looking at shirts and she asked who i was buying for and i said myself...she flipped out....
wtf! At the LB near me there are some skinny women who work there, which I used to find strange but hey, peeps gotta make money somehow right? As long as they make a sale why should they care who buys it?
On the other hand, I've heard people who are heavy be rudely told to gtfo of stores too.
I just lost a ton of weight and I'm so afraid every time I go into a "normal" store that someone's going to come up to me and tell me, "Hey, you don't belong in here. You're too fat." D:
The bitches who worked at the Lane Bryant near my house would've.
I was doing a project and needed a mannequin, or mannequin parts. I'm about average sized, and was more interested in a curvy mannequin than the super-thin ones most stores have. I walked in and asked if they had a discarded mannequin they'd be interested in selling me, or a catalog that I could check out, and they just rolled their eyes and looked at me like I was retarded.
:) I don't think that most customers there would really get too upset.
"Chubby" is fairly adorable in the range of fat monikers. I don't think the word has nearly the same connotation as several decades ago. Anymore, fat activists and fat positive folks are taking back those words, so it's not so shameful or stigmatizing.
taking back as a concept is a little bit of a misnomer IMO. words can never be truly taken back simply because they were so abused in their hey-day. any use in their taken-back era only serves to remind us of how inappropriate they were in the first place. that's why such words should not be taken back but simply replaced.
Although I have my issues with LB, I still give them credit for being one of the few nation-wide chain stores that caters to plus-sized women. Other stores don't try nearly as hard and still others have relegated their plus sizes to online shopping only. Total crap, imho.
I'm just saying that I would be in a bind without their fuller figure bras. ;) In a society that is so overwhelmingly obsessed with big boobs, you'd think it wouldn't be so hard to get a bra that fits.
Fashion Bug is still around? Is it just East Coast? I haven't seen one since moving here to California and your comment was the first time it's come to mind in probably six years.
Oh, boom! We lovingly call Lane Bryant "The LB" or "The Pound"!
I love their bras, but their clothes are a tad overpriced for my budget. I like when I get those crazy percent off cards in the mail! Because of the stigma of being a "store for chubbies," my size-ten sister would NEVER shop there, even if they did have a size ten.
Good, I say; more for chubby ME!
Heh, they used to use words like "hefty" "Chubby"...what word did Sears use, back in the day, for their Toughskins line? When you were a little chubby? I cannot recall. Was it hefty?
I love LB bras. They're comfy, okay looking, and they seem to thrive on going through the washing machine, and getting stepped on. Then again, I'm a bit below plus-sized, so the other stuff there doesn't fit me. I have been wondering recently how anyone who's not teeny finds maternity clothes (I guess only skinny people are supposed to get pregnant), so that's another market that needs to be filled, too.
I have noticed maternity clothes at Old Navy. I've been surprised this year at the amount of stuff they have that fits me and that I like (size 14-16, not pregnant ever ever, and I fit into the large or extra large stuff), and the maternity clothes seem to be just slight variations on the rest of their line.
