That looks strangely similar to The Keeper, which is somewhat popular now.

I know tons of womens swear by these things but I am a bit frightened of that sort of change.

They're wonderful. If you're nervous about shelling out for a Keeper, there's a disposal cup called Instead. Before my hysterectomy, I swore by the things. They were the only anything that helped my cramps (which, surprise, surprise, were caused by a cervical deformity, which the cup partially circumvented). They take a little bit of getting used to, but once they're in, they're just as comfortable as tampons (if not moreso), and in an emergency, you can even wipe out and re-use the disposable ones. For road trips and long flights, they're the best invention in the history of the Red Tide.

And, of course, if you hate them, you can always switch back. :)

I love the Diva Cup, but I found Instead to be a disaster.

I used Instead, never got around to getting a Keeper. They work on the same principle, though. Might be worth mentioning to lots and lots of docs to see if they'll perform a formal study. ;) If the Keeper/Divacup/Instead/whatever can clinically reduce incidence of menstrual cramping, their companies will be rolling in it.

Well, not really. Instead is made to fit around the cervix, whereas the re-usable cups are made to sit lower in the vagina. So while the idea is similar, it's not *exactly* the same thing.

But can they spill? I don't understand.

If you take them out the wrong way, they can splash. Once you've got them in properly, though, they're pretty firmly pressed against the cervix, and they won't suddenly turn over or anything. Until you're used to taking them out, keep a couple of wet-wipes on hand if you're in public. (Other than that, I never had any sort of problem, and it was only a matter of skill that caused any sort of mess.)

"Have a happy period."

There's a greeting card.
Course, with contemporary cultural changes/sensitivities in what wishes are offered to whom, it might be broadened to "Cyclical Greetings!"

menstrual cups are amazing. I think these early models had some problems, but the Keeper (which I use) and the Diva Cup are quite possibly the greatest thing to happen to menstruation since, uh, menopause.

I've been shouting from the rooftops about how much I love my diva cup (http://www.divacup.com/) ever since I got it.
What a lot of women who are afraid of this concept don't understand is that menstrual cups have been around since the 1930's. Which means they are a product that works.
They kick ass for about one hundred and three reasons. They are life changing!
Although, my hormones still cause me the urge to smash the faces in of anyone who dares suggest I have a "happy period".

There are a lot of things just like it on the market now. Read the rest of the thread.

Doesn't Always use that "Have a happy period" slogan now? Ick.

Anyway, this reminds me I should look into buying a Divacup/Mooncup.

Kotex, I think.

Worst. Slogan. Ever.

Every time I see it on the box I think "oh f#$k off."

Tassaway was disposable though, more analogous to the contemporary Instead cup (http://www.softcup.com/). (Which are actually reusable, though not durable like a Diva or Moon cup.)

Wow, as a teenager (boy), I was shown one of these by my best pal, that he'd found in his parents' bathroom.

We both thought it was a "French tickler", not a menstrual cup!! I did think it was a little large to fit on his dad's hoo-hah, and especially wondered how that "loop" on the end could be very pleasurable for his mom!

initially I decided that it is a joke. But then I read the comments.... I am really surprised! We don't have such products on our market. And I would never believe that they can exist. :))

The other nice thing about them is you can have sex when during that time of the month if you were skittish about it before. I know my friends have said it isn't always perfect but hubby and I have not had any accidents. I had no idea it has been around so long.
