February 1929 RCA Radio Advertisement. I like the art deco style. Wow! what a bargain! $147.00 for a radio! if you notice, less auditrons (vacuum tubes) Actually, $147.00 in 1929 dollars equals to $1764.51 today. It's like buying a cd player with no cd's! (useless)

And who knows how much extra the "auditrons" cost! Probably a fortune since they were the latest and the greatest in technology for the time. Here's what a Radiola 60 looks like today You really can find ANYTHING on the ebay

Forget the radiotrons, you also had to buy the speaker separately. The cabinet style in the ad was $88. Presumably the little table-top size shown in the eBay item would have been a bit less.

i actually ran into a working one of these in a very old restaurant up here in Wyoming in october 2007. it was playing old country music (natch, lol...it's Wyoming^.^) in a part of the restaurant they had restored and left it as it was in the 19th century. if you're into potbelly heating stoves, they had three that were really awesome.


but i didn't know anything about the radio, other than it was quirky, cool, and still functioning.
