They grossly underestimated the size of SUVs, didn't they?

*Laugh* Didn't even notice that.

Now I don't feel like technology is moving too fast.

I'm more concerned about the fact that there doesn't seem to be anybody driving the car. The whole fam is fascinated by that bear.

The vehicle is parked. The strut on the ground in back is for extra stability.

That picture is so post-apocalyptic.

"It's June in the year 2000. Thanks to Hehr, the Cragmores' mobile shelter keeps them safe from nuclear winter as they view the last vestiges of North American wildlife."

I was thinking something like that... When it said how 10 years ago the fish were biting, the bears weren't everywhere, and it wasn't raining in June, I was sure it was going to warn against the world turning into a Fishless, Bear populated, rainstorm...

So in 1987, the word "Jovian" was officially replaced with "Jupiterian"?

This is the coolest thing I have ever seen. I love it. The copy in the ad is quite confusing, though. "And wish away a couple of swell kids? Hardly! What's a little rain?" What? So overpopulation is leading to global warming but it's okay because kids are swell? Well, I guess that's actually not too far off the mark. : )

AND I can see by the signature in the corner and the general style that yes, it's a Syd Mead concept drawing. Right freaking on.

GREAT find.

No, but if it was ten years ago, they wouldn't have the kids.

Anybody notice the signature? "Mead" -- is this Syd Mead, who designed the bleak future look in the movie BLADE RUNNER? (I'd go look at his web page and compare, but I got the lazies today.)

Yes. The picture is by Syd Mead, the guy that did concept work for Blade Runner. It's totally his style.

Yeessh. If you look at the back corner of the picture the back door seems to be open with the back steps let down. Are they planing to go out into wild to bring a bear home with them?

Y' know, I was wondering that myself. Okay as a demonstration of concept, but there are bears out there, and they're curious… That door would be slammed shut and crossbarred!

I just... neither of these make ANY sense. What the hell kind of future were they predicting?

The scene of their honeymoon? That must have been a hell of a time!

Unhook your cognition and shake loose from today's fads. The ad copy is referring to the bad weather and plaguing circumstances that have coincided with this vacation, versus the (probably idealized) perfect honeymoon of ten years ago.

I just wonder if Eugene Booth saw this and thought it was just what Ark II (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0127989/) needed…

Why aren't the fish biting? Oh, that's right... We've either captured them all or they've all died off thanks to pollution.

It's kinda like the civilian model of those vehicles in Damnation Alley.

I want one, even though I never drive up to the Forbidden Zone to watch the charcoal bears play in the river of mercury.
