And yes, they were a real company... Or at least tried desparately to be. :)

God, I hate flea-market knockoffs...

But, didn't they end up pushing Apple off the market just like that ad predicted? I mean, I love my Apricot iPit.

Oh wait, I'm remembering alternate history again.

HA!

I used an Adam, not an Apple when I was growing up. I loved having to put a cassette tape into the brick to get DOS to run.

Good times!

These weren't Apple knockoffs by any means; they were intended to compete with IBM and ran MS-DOS or CP/M. They had some great ideas--that stick to the right of the machine in the photo is an IR mouse/trackball, for instance. They weren't hardware-compatible with the IBM PC in the beginning, though they later would be, and were rather popular in the UK. Eventually, as I recall, they were bought out by Mitsubishi and ceased to operate independently.

I know, right? My very first computer was a Kaypro II, and so those sort of numbers would have been UNBELIEVABLE.

32kbits? We had 1200 baud, and we LIKED IT!

The bits had to go uphill, both ways!

And Napster? We were lucky if we could find song lyrics on the local BBS!
