You haven't lived until you've eaten...

DYED-TO-MATCH SAUERKRAUT.

All I have to say is some marketing person was on some fantastic drugs when they came up with this.

There's a lot of crazy absurdity in this ad (kids having "kraut-dyeing parties"?!), but, oddly enough, I find the hardest thing to believe is that the grinning woman in the red shirt is supposed to be a teenager.

Nothing beats digging into a Huge Bowl of Green Kraut for St. Patricks day...

Edit everything else out. Behold Dragon Lady, front and center, in black vinyl “mad scientist” gloves and a challenging expression, holding out a bowl of green substance.

“We can do this the easy way - or the hard way…”

Seriously, that woman does look pretty ominous (and I want her outfit! :D).

"I haven't had so much fun since Lindy took me barnstorming in 'The Spirit of St. Louis'!"

I have to admit, this make me die a little.

That's not Conrad Veidt in your icon, is it?

Yes, I'm icon-obsessed this week.

No it's Dave Vanian from The Damned. :)

I remember when food coloring came in glass bottles like that and not the plastic ones.

I love your icon! Also, I have to laugh at 'us kids' having kraut dyeing parties.

They're all holding bowls of dyed brains. I know it.

I'll take it plain, thanks. Maybe with caraway seeds.

Black sauerkraut seems like something a Klingon would eat. Gagh anyone?

mmm, I loves me some sauerkraut but I'm a bit suspicious of sauerkraut that looks like neopolitan ice cream.

Why is Mama so much shorter than everyone else? :(

She likes her Kraut plain and uncolored. The emphasis of the advertisement is on the food coloring--Mama must be boring with her plain Kraut. What I don't understand is why the Aunt chooses to buy the Kraut instead of maker her own. The way it is in the advertisement making your own saurkraut would not be difficult.

This has got to be the weirdest ad ever. What is up with that tiny lady in the front?

Cousin Nina reminds me of the Bride of Frankenstine...for some odd reason, maybe it is her hair.

Eat it, or weave pot-holders and lanyards with it in summer camp arts & krauts, or fling it at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Line Easter Baskets with it…to hold festive colored eggs. Dye, monster, dye!

(WFMU was playing something by “Kraut” as I typed this!)

Never once have I looked at sauerkraut and thought it needed jazzing up with food coloring. I wish no one else had either.

Reminds me of the 7-Up "Uncola" ads in the '70s that told you to avoid the stigma of being seen drinking a clear soft drink by adding drops of food coloring to your 7-Up to make it "cola colored".
