I would say fashion should learn from its mistakes, but it appears it still hasn't because this was in the latest season's collection by a prominent Australian designer:

I'd wear the red jumper and the "thing".

I do hope they had snaps at the crotch area...otherwise... O_O

It does advertise a "split crotch" on the Body Thing. Perhaps that designer was on furlough from Fredericks of Hollywood.

I had clothes from the Lemon Frog Shop back in the day. It's where I got my favorite purple brushed denim super bell-bottom hip huggers with the gold and ivory stripes. Ah, seventh grade and the life of Yesterday's Teen.

That is somehow very cool and exceptionally gross all at the same time.

Groovy!

Or.. not. Let's go with not.

Ahh those were the days, having to deal with snap crotches and underpants in the bathroom. Having to deal with the rapidity with which I grew out of the body length on those things. Making the snaps much tougher to close up.

Not to be compared to the full body jumper which one just had to peel out of from the shoulders down to pee. Sensible body dressing at its best.

I remember too and add a if you had a long torso you spent the whole day hunched over in a vain attempt to relieve any of the downward pressure on shoulders and upward on more sensitive areas.

Heh. And that little. pop-pop as you sat down in class undoing five minutes of work. My Mom tried but I really hated most of my clothes.

You may be amused to learn that when Paramount made Star Trek: The Motion(less) Picture, while the name stars had custom-tailored jumpsuits, the extras were handed one of three sizes, “Next!”

David Gerrold, the SF author, was one of those extras - the film was a chance to give 'Scooby snacks' to many in Trek fandom, who thus appeared in crowd scenes and backgrounds - and to this day he has amusing-in-retrospect memories of exactly what you're talking about. It was a hideously uncomfortable costume.

I remember that look. It was very big. Also in Argyle. Argyle was all over the place. I never had one of those. Only the really cool girls did.

I think "The Lemon Frog Shop" started at Sears in 1971. The boy's equivalent was "The Put On Shop".

Well then it was tres passé stuff. Because this look hit its peak in 1965-66.

Not everywhere. Remember that Sear's role wasn't cutting-edge high fashion - it was selling inexpensive clothes to middle America.

I'm currently in a theatrical production where someone plays a "jester"--those tights would kick ass for his costume.
