Still having scanning fun with the May 1973 Women's Day...

Do not, i repeat, do NOT look at this if you have just eaten....it's really pretty gross looking and i can't imagine any self-respecting Scandinavian eating this...

but do read all the other international options...the Jamaican is "so good, mon"

In Soviet Russia, pizza tops YOU in the last five minutes of baking!

That is absolutely vile. As are all of the suggested combinations. Taking the cliched "native foods" and slapping them on a pizza does not make said pizza "Insert country name here" style. It makes it gross.

Ok, I just have to say this: My uncle (I called him "Aunt Steve") once gave me a recipe for... pierogie pizza.

Take a prepared thin crust (St. Louis style is perfect; the thinnest possible) and spread with mashed potatoes. Top with shredded cheddar, sliced sauted onions, a bit of cooked saurkraut or some sauted 'shrooms if you like, and bake. It was pretty yummy.

Note the complete absense of Chef Boy-ar-dee(c) Complete Pizza Mix... no tomato sauce belongs here. Doesnt' this sound MUCH better than the "Polish Pizza" in the ad above?

Also, the ad has "kielbasa" spelled wrong. I'm just sayin.

I think kilbassi is an alternate spelling.

Kill Bassi

I've never seen it spelled that way.

Oddly enough, googling "kilbassi" got me this:

LOL! My fat kitty sits around like that!

It is a testament to my Mick-style upbringing that I kind of want to try the corned beef and cabbage pizza -- BUT WHERE ARE THE POTATIES??

Oh man, I remember the "international" pizza craze of the early '70s. My mom had a very groovy pizza cookbook with many many really awful recipes. To be fair, I don't remember her actually trying any of them; I think the book was a gift from someone.

I sort of like how they raped all cultures equally.
