...I dunno about you, but I kind of prefer the old ones. They're more personable, and have more charm... The familiar Empire Carpet guy has been replaced with a CG-animated character, faceless customers wander around inside of generic homes..hrmph. Lesson: Newer doesn't always mean better.

i read that the empire carpet guy had a stroke or some other health problem and he didn't like his appearance in commercials anymore, so he still does the voice for the computer animated guy....

LOVE those commercials!!! I grew up watching WGN Chicago, so I was seeing these!

We have Empire in New York now, but only recently, so I had not seen the older ads. The guy does have a very distinctive voice.

I can't find a YouTube of the recent commercial that I find the most bizarre. A middle-aged woman is going on and on to her husband, daugher, and son-in-law about her great new carpet, with the daughter enthusiastically pointing out the features. At the end, the worthless son-in-law flips out his cellphone like it's some sort of magic bat-weapon and gets ready to call the number. Home decorating for girls, gadgets for boys.
