I have a History BA from Kent State and am currently working on my paralegal certificate there. May 4th means something different if you're associated with Kent State. I started there in 1988, and at that time many citizens of Kent were still hating on the students, which was bizarre to encounter. Whether you believe in such things or not, the energy on that field and in that parking on May 4th is thick with tension, fear, and overwhelming sadness every year. It's palpable, a force I hope one day can find peace.
One year Crosby, Stills, and Nash, no Young, sang this overlooking the field where the protest started that day. Talk about surreal.
Allison Krause died in her boyfriend, Barry Levine's arms. When he read this I didn't see one face around me that wasn't covered in tears, including my own.
