Though the ad and menu are from the 1950s, my time of Woolworth's was really the 1980s. Almost every Saturday at 11:30am I'd leave my residence on 8th Avenue South and my best friend in high school Jenny Bigwood would leave her house on 1st Avenue South. We'd meet at 5th Avenue and 7th Street and go have lunch at Woolworth's 4 blocks down. Then we'd wander around maybe getting a 45, remember them? Before then going into almost every single store downtown.

We had Woolco and spent many a fine time there in the 80s! I miss it still. Wal-Mart bought all the Canadian locations.

We only had one Woolworth's around so I never realized until much later that it was a chain.. all I can really remember about it is where it was and that I always just wanted to go look at the fish in the pet department whenever we went.

Ours was at the Mall we frequented throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s and yes, the lunch counter was memorable. Such simple, good food and the downstairs supplied pets, dry goods and big items while upstairs was clothing and the lunch counter. When I was little, Mom and Gran would allow me to drink the cream for their coffee out of the teensy individual glass creamers and once stole one for me to take home. I regret nothing, because the thing is still on my shelf after all this time.
