Jackie Gleason has an acid trip in prison while trying to assassinate Mickey Rooney, Carol Channing gets adopted into a hippy cult, and Groucho Marx is God. Makes about as much sense as it sounds.
well,,,, yes and no. kinda like a train wreck..... terrible, but strangely compelling for the fact that you get to see most of batman's rouges gallery on an acid trip and groucho marx high as a kite
While I’d hesitate to call it “good,” it is, as you say, strangely compelling and watchable. Sometimes it’s even funny on purpose (the scene with Frank Gorshin talking without moving his lips never fails to give me the giggles). Mostly worth it for the sheer absurdity of it all. The man who wrote the screenplay also wrote the script for Brewster McCloud, which is arguably even weirder.
But it’s far from Otto Preminger’s worst film. Compare to Rosebud, for example. That film is just brutal!
