I distinctly remember an ad in the 70s for Neutrogena soap with the tagline: "The bar of soap you can eat," but I wasn't able to find it online. Their claim to purity came from the fact that it's made of clarified beef tallow. (Yum!)
I just noticed that it says "Cheesebrough Manufacturing Co." on the label, meaning it was before the merger with Pond's. I forget what town it was, but there was a Cheesebrough-Ponds industrial park near where I lived in high school.
