Mod Post---Paris
Nov. 13th, 2015 11:28 pmI'm sure many of you are watching the events unfold in Paris tonight. As in all instances of individuals or groups out to inflict terror or to destroy a way of life or ideals they don't agree with, humanity always triumphs. People are opening their apartments to strangers, cabs are not charging fares, others rushed outside to help victims without knowing what kind of situation they were entering. Within a day or two, without a doubt, there'll be stories of individuals who were in the midst of gunshots, grenades, and pure terror; despite their own fears, they helped comfort and calm others. Perhaps even holding someone's hand as they took their last breath so they didn't die 'alone'.
It's a very different world we live in now than even 20 years ago. Where posting photos of every meal is accepted as normal, as is posting photos of every outfit. Hash tags can make or break someone. At the end of the day though, in times of trouble, people, PEOPLE come through for each other. Humanity has not been removed, nor relegated to a hash tag or a #TBT memory. The United States experienced it on September 11. Race, religion, political party, sexual orientation, NONE of that mattered, people were helping each out other and united as ONE. As it should be always. Humanity shone a bright light that day here in the US and it will shine a bright light in the Paris now as it has in so many places in between.
None of us know when our time in this existence will end. Always ensure those who you love know it. No matter your beliefs, or lack of, please send good thoughts to Paris. If you live in an area where there is a Parisian Consulate/Embassy, you could go and sign a book of condolence. You can also donate to the International Federation of the Red Cross here. On the right, when you hit donate now, select International Federation of the Red Cross. There is a French Red Cross but the site is in French with no English translate option.

Please, as always with our community, no political bashing (that doesn't exclude discussing them), no racism, no xenophobia, etc. This is not one individual's fault, no one party's fault, no one country's fault, etc. No finger pointing, just any thoughts about this, etc.

Date: 2015-11-14 12:40 pm (UTC)This, too, happens in Paris: http://time.com/4112428/paris-shootings-porte-ouverte/
Bordeaux, where I live, is very calm today.
Everyone looks serene but decidedly human at going about their daily business.

Date: 2015-11-14 04:32 pm (UTC)I remember the last series of terrorist bombings in France several years ago; truly horrible, but at least the French are generally very good at the whole "keep on keeping on" mindset. Hopefully this makes everyone pull together, not fracture apart and turn on each other as the attackers would like everyone to do.
