Vintage ads leave us perplexed

Dogs, depressed! No!

Cats, at rest!
Yo!

Vintage ads are oversexed

(see how I cleverly used a cut to adhere to the 3-ad rule?  ;D)

Gawd, I need one of those flannels...er: night shirts.
I'd take two for the price of one.
Also, the redcapped womanhood is Practical Surrealism, no?
No "like" for I love this!
Must now spread the joy;)

These are all great! And now I know what company to blame for that godawful "ecru/pebble" color on the dining room walls when I was young!

First ad is def pre-WWII as Fascist Italy is mentioned in present tense. And possibly when a lot of Americans still thought fascism might be a good idea. D:

Also 50,000 women want toast!

"And 'beaver' is not a fur." hehehehe

I really like the fact that the "excuse" nightshirts are the same for both his and hers. That seems remarkably non-misogynistic for an ad of this vintage.

--And all I can think is, "Man, it took eight years to assemble that information?! Then it's all nearly a decade out of date! D:

Also I am pretty sure that that's the dictionary my elementary school had. Only remember that (a) it was huge; and (b) I was unable to use it to settle an argument about what a "dell" was (back before the computer company, this was), as it had "dells" (plural of "dell") in it, but not "dell", much to my irritation.

Google and Wikipedia are amazing.
